LIVING JAPANESE STYLE ' LUNCHTIME Part-1 '

Hello this is masa at Shibuya Business Garden.

Many Japanese people save money by bringing a lunch box
('bento') to work and eating it at their desk.

A 'bento' consists of  rice, pickles, fish ,meat, etc.
packed in a handy box and carried in a bag or wrapped in a cloth.

Many offices and factories have their own dining halls.
These are often self-service, and cheap,
since they are usually subsidised by the company.

People who haven't brought a lunch box and are too busy to leave
their desk can order meals by telephone from local restaurants.
This service is called 'demae' and is very common in Japan.

Housewives use the service too, and the delivery boy or
motorbike is a familiar sight.
